Sustainability

Leeds University Union understands that our operations and processes can impact both positively and negatively towards the environment, and social and economic issues. We recognise that the event management of The Official Leeds Universities' Summer Ball 2008 can have long term impacts on social, environmental and economic factors, and we wish to make that as positive as possible. Examples of the types of sustainability issues LUU will consider during the preparations and the realisation of The Summer Ball include recycling, carbon dioxide emissions and the use of fair trade products.

We are looking in to all aspects of how The Summer Ball will impact the environment, both at the site itself and the effect of our preparations for the Ball (e.g. printing up leaflets and posters, the transport of goods supplied for the event). We will look to counteract any negative impact made by The Summer Ball, and keep record of it so we can improve year on year our objectives for the event's sustainability. Our practices will extend to product and service providers that we work in conjunction with to host The Summer Ball.

Our main objectives for The Summer Ball 2008 are to provide an unparalleled celebration for the students of Leeds and their friends in a safe, controlled environment, and to ensure that the event uses sustainable, ethical practices at every step.
