The Line-Up
We are excited to announce...
Headlining this year´s Summer Ball 2010 is Brit Award-winner Florence and The Machine!
Currently number two in the official UK top 40 singles with her outstanding performance of 'You´ve Got The Love', as performed with Dizzie Rascal at last month´s Brit Awards, Florence and The Machine have risen to success as sales of her number one album 'Lungs' has soared after winning Best Album.
Other top acts announced this year include: Leeds-band The Sunshine Underground who have just released their new album 'Nobody´s Coming To Save You' will be headlining the Fruity Arena; electro DJ Erol Alkan to play Wax:On, as well as hot new talent: Daisy Dares You who is being hotly tipped as one to watch in 2010!

Of the Summer Ball 2010 photo shoot!
This year, for the first time ever, the faces of the Summer Ball 2010 are Leeds´ very own beautiful students.
Three lovely ladies and four hansom chaps volunteered their time on a chilly overcast day in October to produce (what we think are) the best Summer Ball images to date!
Model Casting
Our seven models contacted the Union after seeing an advertisement on the Union´s website and in the fortnightly emails seeking students to take part in the Summer Ball photo shoot. After patiently waiting for a day with some decent weather, our models and their entourage of LUU staff and the photographer, made their way over to the site.
The shoot took place just outside of Leeds in Adel Woods; very pretty and au natural (i.e. a little wild and overgrown) - perfect for an afternoon ramble, not so much for those in suits and ball gowns! However, after a few costume changes in a pop-up tent, and an E number-tastic feast of Pringles, sausage rolls and mini-eggs, the seven models were soon chatting, laughing and ready to be snapped.
A big Hurrah!
This modelling malarkey is hard work! However, despite the chilly weather and 'not-quite-so-glam' conditions, our models were fantastic which is clear from the end results!
Although, most had previously done little or no modelling work, they acted like real professionals; following direction, showing enthusiasm and really getting stuck in!
The 'Real' Summer Ball
Previous year´s promotional material has seen the same old generic images of beautiful people floating in an idyllic field of flowers underneath a cloudless blue sky. Whilst these portray summer and a festival feel, this year´s material display a more 'real' and honest image of the summer ball representing the key words and phrases: friends, fun, celebration, end of year and, for some, end of an era, which is what the summer ball is all about.

For a Golden Ticket.
Another first for the Summer Ball, is the indroduction of the Golden Tickets! To celebrate the launch of the Summer Ball 2010, there will be 500 golden tickets up for grabs at a special event held in the Terrace on Tuesday 16th March. Tickets will be on sale from 12.00noon to 2.00pm.
What´s so special about a Golden ticket?
- You can get them at the priority price of £37 (and you don&#acute;t need to be a final year student)
- There are no limits to how many golden tickets you wish to buy.
- You don´t have to choose a carriage time - on the day of the Summer Ball, the golden ticket allows you to jump on any carriage of your choice, whenever you fancy making your way over to the Summer Ball site.
- Queue jump - onto the carriages but also on site, on entrance to the Summer Ball.
Come along to the Terrace from 9.00pm on Tuesday 16th March to celebrate the launch and bag your golden tickets! This is a free event, open to all students. There will also be music by Rox and LUU Dance Band.
